I've just picked up and started using a fairly inexpensive, Caline CP-08 isolated power supply on my pedal board.
There’s been a reasonable amount of discussion and debate on various guitar groups whether it's an isolated power supply or not and thought I would post a review and share internal photos of the unit and multi-meter measurements/tests.
Firstly, yes it’s a fully isolated power supply with separate taps from a toroidal transformer providing isolated power to each outlet along with short circuit protection (refer to image below of shorted outlet test). It's very quiet with no noticeable or induced signal hum (with a mix of analog and digital pedals.
Specs:
- Input power is user selectable between 110V & 230V AC
- 245mm x 69mm x 45mm
- Approx 1.5KG in weight
- 10 isolated DC outlets in total:
- Included cables:
Doing the maths, total output watts of the unit should be around 19.8W which is lower that its stated 45W maximum rating. It got quite hot initially when loaded across 9v and high voltage/current outlets (e.g. approx 703mA load across all outlets) with the case temp reaching 41C. When operated at a more modest level, it was hardly warm to touch.
UPDATE: I must have had a faulty cable or pedal doing weird things as the case temp has settled down and is fine now.
Overall:
Its well made with a nice anodised aluminium enclosure although it could probably do with a few ventilation slots given the number of voltage regulators (1 per outlet) and max current loading. It's also not the most compact unit so make sure you check its dimensions to ensure it fits under your pedal board.
Other than its size, the only real annoyance so far is that all outlet LEDs illuminate whether used or not. They turn off to indicate a shorted outlet but are a little too "bright" so best hidden under your board.

Low current section exposed with individual taps (no heat sinks on these regulators but presume they can cope with the 100mA load). |
